For twenty-four years, Mr. Lerner handled litigation of all kinds at Stinson, Mag & Fizzell, P.C., a large, preeminent firm in both Kansas City, Missouri, and Overland Park, Kansas, but he also tried cases in over 23 states. He started his own firm twenty-nine years ago in Overland Park, where he continues to handle commercial litigation and various plaintiffs' and defendants' claims of all kinds.
Mr. Lerner is a member of the Kansas and Missouri bars, as well as the bars of many federal district courts throughout the United States, the Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeal, and the United States Supreme Court. Among other clients, he has represented major manufacturers who distributed products on a national and international basis. He has represented individuals who suffered discrimination. He also participated in one of the largest antitrust cases in history and filed the False Claims Act case that resulted in the largest settlement in the history of that act. Although most of his cases have been heard in Missouri and Kansas courts, he has tried cases from New York to California, in both state and federal courts, and has handled matters in Europe and South America.
Mr. Lerner served two two-year terms as the Trustee for the Tenth Circuit on the National Board of Trustees of the American Inns of Court. The American Inns of Court consists of over 35,000 leading trial lawyers and federal and state judges. While on the Board of Trustees, he not only became well-acquainted with many prominent U.S. jurists and lawyers, but he also met and entertained some of the most important British jurists. He remains on the Advisory Council of the American Inns of Court. He is also a member of the Tenth Circuit Historical Society.
He has held leadership positions in the Kansas City Area Development Council, the Overland Park Economic Development Council, the American Cancer Society, Leadership Overland Park, the Johnson County Community College Foundation, The Overland Park Rotary Club, and the Overland Park Rotary Club Foundation.
He graduated from Stanford University with a degree in political science and obtained his law degree from Boston University, where he was an editor of the Law Review. He led the Stanford Alumni Association of Greater Kansas City for many years. Mr. Lerner served for two years on active duty as an officer in the United States Army, receiving the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service on the staff of the Commanding General of the 7th Infantry Division in Korea. He then spent three years in the army reserves.
